[教育時評] 如何學習英文來完成目標?
每個人學習英語的目的不盡相同。就個人而言，英語學習的終極目標是能將其作為工具，來實現各種目標，改善自身與他人的生活。然而很多人的英語學習都停留在基本的階段。你可以試著問自己，你能使用英語來獲取知識、理解新資訊、應用概念、分析動機、評估思想並創造新事物嗎？若是自己的母語做得到嗎?
Everyone learns English for a different reason. To me, the ultimate goal is to use English as a tool to empower myself and facilitate change. To accomplish such goals, one needs to use English to acquire knowledge, comprehend new information, evaluate new ideas, collaborate with others, and create. Can you do these things in English or even in your native language?
如果你無法有效地使用或不去使用一種語言，那麼曠日廢時地來掌握一種語言的目的為何？要知道這與了解多少種語言或背誦多少文法點的能力無關。這關乎確實的掌握語言並將之作為工具運用來增強自己的能力。因此我認為英語課應該著重於教學生如何運用英文完成任務，而非僅僅是著力在基本的拼寫與文法 (請注意這並不代表英語的基礎元素不重要)。
What is the point of spending so much time to “master” a language if you cannot or do not use it outside the classroom? It's not about how many languages you know or how well you can recite grammar points. It's about using language to better yourself and bring about change. While basic spelling and grammar are essential, students must also learn how to use English to meet diverse needs.
那我們該如何學習英語？我們該如何學習使用英語來實現現實生活中的目標？使用Bloom的分類法來引導學習會是個好方法。即便是學習基礎英語，請確保你所做的不僅止於重複單字、鑽牛角尖。請進行討論並延伸閱讀，進行分組計畫並就所學有所創造。
How should we learn English then? How can we use English to accomplish practical goals? One way is to use Bloom's Taxonomy to guide our learning. Even when learning basic English, make sure that the activities you do move beyond just basic drilling. Have discussions and do extended reading! Do group projects and create something with the information you learn!
